good music monday #10.
i go on these stints where i play a lot of guitar and those where i don't. right now i'm playing a lot. this song, a classic, is one of the fist tunes i learned to play in its most basic version because it's all my pops knew to teach me. this is a cool little live version of it that i have never seen before. this is from their early days when clapton was referred to simply as god. check out his hair and that trademark psychedelic gibson sg...epic...
enjoy.

lemme get thissssssss.
the fifth version of adobe's creative suite is going to launch soon. one of the main new features is called content-aware fill in photoshop. it's sort of ridiculous. honestly, i don't really know how i feel about it because it requires two button clicks to make serious photo revisions that would otherwise take multiple, laborious hours to complete. it's mighty convenient, but it is taking away from the art form of photo editing. i see editing as it's own art form because it's become required with the advent of digital photography. just because you take good photos doesn't mean you're good at editing them, and vice versa. editing can make or break a photograph. this is sure to make a lot of people in the very near future. check it out...
pretty ridiculous, right?

shootin' up parties.
that title probably suggests something much different than what is going to ensue in this post. i often photograph at parties. i enjoy it despite the conflict between drinking and shooting. and you have to be careful with your gear...some of those inebriated fools get a little reckless. the moments that are frozen by my lens are often much more rewarding that blurry remembrance of the nights happenings. a couple weeks ago was my homegirl kristina's 22nd and she had a party at her cribbington. i only took about 40 photos but i like how some of them turned out so i'll share them...
i really like the way the sync chord worked with my flash this time around. grand times, folks, grand times. make memories, not bad decisions.

remembering a fallen brother.
for you, sir...from the bottom of my heart...happy 22nd birthday...
i get dressed with two feet on the ground,
you impress the fallen souls in the clouds.
twenty months gone i still miss you now,
i cant touch you but i still feel you, how?
the Business lives on through the economy drought.
i'll never grasp on to the fact that you've passed on,
but i know you're in heaven with a fitted cap on.
as you sit next to jesus and i work on my thesis
i can't bring you back no matter how long my reach is.
it rained today but that doesn't wash the pain away
and the sun shines on 'cause its your birthday.
i hope you realize you brighten the worst days,
let's grab a drink 'cause i know you're thirstayyy.
...love you k.b.

good music monday #8.
this miiiight be my favorite song off of the album...it's debatable. when this video [directed by jason goldwatch] dropped a couple weeks ago i liked it more than i already did. to me, this video just confirms the fact that cudi is that dude. there are small cameos by 'ye and drake and my favorite moment comes at 0:56...wylin' out on stage seems like it would be the best ting ever. i heard cudi spit the first verse of this acapella in b.e.t. back when he was known as "the guy that sang day 'n' night" and i knew he would soon be much more than that...i hunted and found that b.e.t. clip on youtube and listened to it over and over and over and over again...so good...even with no beat...
enjoy.
i found the original b.e.t. freestyle...it's just audio but you get it.

chivalrous thoughts.
i'm the type of guy that will go out of his way to open or hold a door for somebody. it's partly my nature and partly the way my mother realized me. however, i find it pretty frustrating to complete an act of kindness like this and receive no acknowledgment for this. seriously though...are you breaths that important that you cant mutter thank you? is your neck that stiff that you can't give me a head flick at the bare-minimum? c'mon now.
then i got-to-thinking...am i rude if i don't acknowledge their acknowledgment? if someone says, "thank you," are we required to say, "you're welcome" as a rhetorical response? i found it to be an interesting internal debate that i couldn't draw a conclusion for.
so ask yourself...who is more rude, the person who doesn't say, "thank you" or the one who doesn't say, "you're welcome?"

hilarity.
every once and a while new comedians hit the mainstream and really make you laugh. for me, aziz ansari is one of those comedians. i've never seen the movie funny people or the tv show parks and rec but aziz has a role in both of those. i'll i've seen is his most recent stand-up special entitled intimate moments for a sensual evening. it's hilarious from beginning to end. these are two of my favorite segments from the program...i could watch them repeatedly...
"just so you know...i was on an important phone call, i wasn't takin' a shit." ohhhhh kanye...

good music monday #7.
miss erykah badu is an artist that should need no introduction what-so-ever...if you've never listened to her music, change that immediately. i know females that would change their sexual persuasion for this woman. she's making a comeback and i'm liking what i've heard so far. her latest album, new amerykah, part two: return of the ankh, released a few days ago. i really enjoy her single, from the album, entitled window seat. she released a music video for the song and it is stirring up a bit of a controversy. i won't spoil it...watch and formulate an opinion for yourself. it's a definite act of courage and self-confidence.
enjoy.
i know the video is cut off...all of the youtube windows have gotten too big for blogger and the vimeo ones have been taken down...just click on it to go to the original page and watch it there.

thesis review numero tre.
unsuccessful. i was semi-excited/nervous going into my crit because things have kind of recently cleared up for me and i think i know what i want to show. this was abruptly abolished by the lack of commentary...it's always been funny to me how people can talk so much in other people's crit and then be silent in mine. the only thing that was really discussed was the presentation of photography so it is equal to painting, which is an issue that i had already foreseen...the issue was brought about without many possible solutions/suggestions, so if anything i'm a little more confused. maybe i got the short end of the stick because i was next to last...but no excuse. i'm sort of tired of being pretty vocal in everyone else's crits and then getting nothing back, really...it become a wast of time, especially when i need the help and input. fat shouts to sir figs for giving me his opinion once the class crit was wrapped up...'preciate it, my man.

some drake commentary.
drake's level of celebrity is one that need to introduction or preface...including his role on the television show degrassi. his rise to pop-stardom is one that has happened almost over-night. so much so that he wasn't on the radar for last year's xxl freshman 2009 and i assume that his stardom put him on a plateau above this year's. he's been a behind the scenes kind-of-guy for a while...ghost writing for the likes of lil' wayne and others.
this post comes as a response to one of his latest singles, over...
the chorus of this track [what am i doin'? oh yea that's right im doin' me] is a line that has crossed the lips of many listeners and made the almighty status on the book of faces of more people than i can count. my thoughts are this...is that really true for you? are you really doing you? when you wake up every morning, put your pants on one-leg-at-a-time like everybody else, shower, and look yoursef in the mirror, are you really going to tackle the day as you really wanted to tackle it? i don't think i can believe the rhetorical yes that the majority of people would answer with. granted what some people really want to do isn't the best for them and even a little counter-productive, no one should be humping a dead-end 9 to 5 just to get by...no human deserves that or should be obligated to that...we all deserve more. i believe that everyone should take a shot at their passion, that's the reason i go to art school...it's what i love and i'm very happy with the decision.
so think about it...give it a shot...don't live with the regret of not trying what you really want to be doing. jump in with both feet. it might be an arduous road, but one day it will be worth the reward and the ease on your mind. and if it doesn't work out, know you gave it your best and you took the risk...even if it means humping a dead-end 9 to 5 to pay the rent and put food on the table. at least you can walk around that 9 to 5 with your head up saying "at least i took the risk" in stead of "i wish i took the risk."
just something to think about...

another poem.
the comeback.
why this? why that?
she looked and she laughed,
because i wanted to.
a comeback that
paused me in my tracks.
bye why this? why that?
she turned and she laughed,
i don't need justice
i'm not a prisoner to reason,
open up you must it
will bring change like the seasons.
why this? why that?
she looked and she laughed,
because i wanted to.
a comeback that
paused me in my tracks.
bye why this? why that?
she turned and she laughed,
i don't need justice
i'm not a prisoner to reason,
open up you must it
will bring change like the seasons.
